Soft Suit Combo – The Final Set

Here it is! Three garments, two patterns, one great suit. I’m over the moon with how this turned out. Even with a few errors, the set is everything I wanted from it. The shirt/jacket that I have been shunning for so long, is just great. The trousers have that smart/casual feel that I love and the waistcoat adds a bit of refinement. It is light and airy enough to wear in the heat of summer but also gives some cover from the sun on a hot day, it also works into the evening and the shacket acts as a good layer when it gets a bit cool later on. I’ve worn it at home to a wedding and on holiday in Italy where I just felt super wearing it both as a day outfit for sightseeing in beautiful Italian towns and equally for evenings out to chic restaurants. When I’m asked to say what style I aspire to, I think Casual Elegance and I think this fits the bill perfectly.

The patterns were relatively straightforward as I’d used them before. I had some issues with fit as I had to grade up but most of my problems were just oversights like not raising the front and sides of the waistcoat and of course my buttons.

Sewing the trend was not as bad as I’d feared, I think these three items are all things that can:

a) be worn separately, I don’t have to wear the whole suit all the time

b) be worn for years to come, they are not dramatic enough to be dated in the near future

So, do you sew the trends? I do now!

Thanks for dropping by,

Yes, I do sometimes sew the trends, Elaine. The one I’ve embraced lately is the straight/wide leg pants. I found the Lander pattern by True Bias and it’s brilliant. I’ve made four pairs of pants and a pair of shorts! I never normally wear shorts! The only hitch on the first pair was that the rectangular waistband gapes horribly at the back. I had to open it and insert elastic. On the next three, and the shorts, I used a curved waistband from a different pattern. I love 💘 those Landers!
