Cowl neck sweater

Hello… hello… it’s me. If you’ve been checking in every now and then thank you and I’m sorry. Travel and lack of sewjo hit hard last year. It’s scary how quickly you can fall out of a good habit. I’m back on my blogging horse and hoping to get back into a good flow. Today I’m throwing it all the way back to about a year ago, I’m sharing a simple project that has given me a lot of wear over the year.

It was one of the fabric reviews that I had outstanding at the start of the year before I took a “break” to focus on learning pattern drafting.

I absolutely love the peachy colour of this ribbed stretch knit from Minerva – it’s one of my favourite shades. It’s described as terracotta, but I’d say it’s not as deep as that, definitely more coral or even salmon (is that the eighties calling?).

I paired this fabric with McCalls M8144 a waist-length sweater top with enormous Bishop sleeves and a kind of funnel/cowl neck.

The whole item was done on my overlocker exclusively and it was done in no time. – I whizzed through so quickly that I forgot to take progress pictures.

This time last year it was very cold well into spring. This top was good under a coat when the weather was cold, but also I found it warm enough to wear without a coat in Spain in March. For those days at home with glorious sunshine but icy winds, it was also a good option.

I have some reservations about the fabric, it’s a bit stiff so the cowl doesn’t drape as much as I would like. Maybe it’s not quite the right fabric for this project.

Still, I really love this top, it’s cosy and comfortable to wear and I love the epic sleeves. And that’s it a short but sweet offering as proof of life.

Thanks for dropping by,
